Anyone code SCTR (StockCharts Technical Ranks)

StrataSearch has many powerful features, with many techniques and approaches to explore. Here we discuss the things we've done, and the things we'd like to do.

Anyone code SCTR (StockCharts Technical Ranks)

Postby gmg733 » Wed Feb 12, 2014 9:32 am

Located here:

http://stockcharts.com/school/doku.php? ... ators:sctr

It measures the strongest stocks in a given group (index for example).

Thanks.

Create a custom formula named SCTR and then put this code into it:

Code: Select all
LT_EMA = (c - mov(c, 200, e)) / mov(c, 200, e) * 100 * 0.3;
LT_ROC = proc(c, 125) * 0.3;

MT_EMA = (c - mov(c, 50, e)) / mov(c, 50, e) * 100 * 0.15;
MT_ROC = proc(c, 20) * 0.15;

PPO = (mov(c, 12, e) - mov(c, 26, e)) / mov(c, 26, e) * 100;
PPO_HIST = PPO - mov(PPO, 9, e);
ST_PPO = lrs(PPO_HIST, 3) * 0.05;
ST_RSI = rsi(c, 14) * 0.05;

SCTR = LT_EMA + LT_ROC + MT_EMA + MT_ROC + ST_PPO + ST_RSI;

You'll need to figure out your own entry and exit strings, you but you can then use a descending SCTR as your Rank.

Wow. That was fast. Thanks!

So "SCTR() > 90" if i wanted all stocks above the 90 rating.

Actually, no, the SCTR is the Indicator Score and not the Technical Rank. For back testing, StrataSearch does not have the ability to generate that Technical Rank as a value, and it would be a very slow process for back testing anyway. But by using the Indicator Score as a descending value in the Rank, you can basically do the same thing: always buy stocks with the highest Indicator Score.

In the article you mentioned, you can see in the "Using SCTR" section at the bottom that he really just uses this as a one-day-at-a-time ranking feature, but doesn't mention any back testing. If this is the approach you want, you can create something pretty similar through the StrataSearch Screener. But for back testing, using the descending SCTR as a Rank entry is the way to go.

Hum. Ok, so I use SCTR() for the indicator score and then sort descending.

The goal is(was) to have the SCTR stocks above 90 sorted out from the rest. I see what you are trying to do with the descending.

I'll play around with it. Thanks.
