Yahoo Data Feed Down

Postby gmg733 » Thu Sep 18, 2014 8:24 am

I didn't get data from Yahoo last night nor this morning. Is it down by chance?

Are you working on other sources for data feeds? All I want is something that is simple like the Yahoo feed. I don't mind paying for a service, but I would rather not manipulate spreadsheets every night.

Thanks.

I don't believe it is fixed, as Yahoo did not update their historical prices last night. This seems to happen at Yahoo a couple times per year, but that's the price one pays for free prices. If you want to switch to a paid service, such events will hopefully never happen and ideally you'll get your prices earlier in the day. Here are a few paid services that have been recommended:

MetaStock Datalink
http://www.metastock.com/products/endof ... ?exchanges

CSI Data
http://www.csidata.com/

EOD Data
http://www.eoddata.com/

I'm sure there are plenty of others. The only requirement is that you be able to store the prices on your hard drive in either an ASCII/CSV format, or the common MetaStock format. Most pricing services provide this, so it's not usually a problem. The prices can then be imported into StrataSearch from those file formats.

Hi Pete,

If I don't want to have to update the sectors and industries to keep them current,is TC2000 the only viable solution?

I am assuming they do all the work regarding the sectors/industries and their constituents..On our end, what should we do periodically to keep things up to date??

Thanks,

Allan

Within StrataSearch, you can use the File > Refresh Symbol and Sector Lists menu. The lists were refreshed just a couple weeks ago. However, it is true that they are not refreshed very frequently.

I am not familiar with how frequently Telechart updates their lists, but you can certainly ask them. Keep in mind that if you switch to a different service, you will need to change to a new Data Folder in StrataSearch and essentially start your installation from scratch. The sector names are usually not compatible from one pricing service to another.

I'm not familiar with other automated options that will not require some hefty maintenance for the user.
